Becker leads Twin City over Granite City, 5-2

The Twin City Steel's David Becker had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Granite City Lumberjacks.

Becker found the back of the net on the power play 9:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Twin City and again while 18:00 into the third to make the score 5-2 Twin City.

 

Twin City forced Granite City goalie Sam Goetsch to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Team could not crack the Lumberjacks' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. The Steel could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Twin City additionally got points from Jon Plaszcz, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Twin City also had goals scored by Nick Manney and Jake McGlocklin, who each put in one. More assists for Twin City came via Mikko Aho, who had two and Mathias Ahman, Jake McAfee, Kyle Wagner, James Hale, and Chris Skordilis, who contributed one each.

Granite City could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Lumberjacks put an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. Granite City kept Twin City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Robbiei Goor made 33 saves on 35 shots. The Lumberjacks' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Granite City averages 1.4 goal allowed per game.

The Lumberjacks were led by David Horsmann, who registered one goal and one assist. Horsmann scored on the power play 8:05 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Twin City. A slashing penalty on McAfee had put Granite City on the power play. Mitchell Gwost picked up the assist. Granite City also got a goal from Luke Richardson as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from David Kenney, who had two.

Goetsch rejected 27 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. Granite City incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
