Granite City downs Wisconsin, 6-3

Adam Marty grabbed one point to lead Granite City to a 6-3 victory over Wisconsin.

Granite City was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and three majors for 47 minutes in penalty time. Granite City surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Wisconsin was unable to stop Granite City from sending pucks towards the net, and Granite City eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The defensemen of Granite City were also effective in Wisconsin\’s zone, and came away with two goals.

Granite City also got points from Tommy Giller, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Granite City included Casey Esselman, Ben Haugo, Lucas Carroll, and Will Mix, who each put in one. In addition, Granite City received assists from Tyler Mros, Alex Durand, William Sprink, and Matt Flom, who contributed one each.

Wisconsin\’s penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. Wisconsin had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Wisconsin was helped by Nathan Viberg, who registered one goal. Viberg scored 12:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Ben Ratner provided the assist. Wisconsin also had goals scored by Caleb Vosters and Matthew Carr, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wisconsin came via Peter Henderson, who had two and Thomas Hanson, Taylor Dickert, and Russel Barone, who each chipped in one.

Granite City\’s Mac Berglove stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Granite City registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Granite City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mix was ejected from the game. Evan Moyse rejected 29 shots on goal for Wisconsin. Wisconsin registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For Wisconsin, Jake McNamara was ejected from the game.
