Granite City survives Alexandria comeback, wins 4-2

Alexandria tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Granite City held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Lucas Carroll put Granite City up 4-1 in the third period, but Alexandria pulled to within two on Aaron Ryback\’s tally 18:00 into the third period.

Alexandria\’s power play was ineffective against Granite City\’s penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Granite City had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances. Granite City could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

Granite City was helped by Chase Di Bari, who racked up one goal. Di Bari scored on the power play 16:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Granite City had taken the advantage when Alexandria\’s Logan Nelson got sent off for cross checking. Zack Cole picked up the assist. Granite City also got points from Cole, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. John Suess also scored for Granite City. In addition, Granite City received assists from Mathew Sprink, who had one.

Alexandria could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game.

Alexandria also got a goal from Dawson Ellingsworth as well. More assists for Alexandria came via Trent Olson, Tony Arias, and Trey Greene, who each chipped in one.

Mac Berglove made 18 saves for Granite City on 20 shots. Brey Effertz rejected 22 shots on goal for Alexandria.
