Granite City Tops Minnesota 6-1

A rash of penalties cost the Minnesota Flying Aces the game, as the Granite City Lumberjacks netted four goals with a man advantage in a 6-1 win.

 

Granite City was led by Brady Bernhardson, who finished with one goal and one assist. Bernhardson scored 13:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City.

The Lumberjacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Minnesota to score on any of its four power plays. The Flying Aces were unable to stop Granite City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumberjacks eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The defensemen of Granite City were also effective in Minnesota's zone, and came away with three goals.

Granite City additionally got points from Tobias Gabrielsen, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Dallas Marvin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Granite City included Zach Voss, David Kenney, and David Horsmann, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Spencer Nelson, Sam Zweiner, and Georgy Ostapchuk, who contributed one each.

The Flying Aces did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 13 saves. Minnesota could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Flying Aces were led by Victor Lombardi, who scored the team's only goal. Lombardi scored 5:09 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Minnesota. Lucas Mutschelknaus assisted on the tally.

Jesse Garcia recorded 13 saves for the Lumberjacks. Granite City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Minnesota's Jaxson Gosnell stopped 29 shots out of the 35 that he faced.
