Gravelle leads North Iowa over Granite City, 7-4

The North Iowa Bulls\’ Brett Gravelle had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team\’s 7-4 win over the Granite City Lumberjacks.

Gravelle found the back of the net 46 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa and again while on the power play 16 seconds into the second to make the score 4-0 North Iowa.

The win gave North Iowa a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Bulls forced Granite City\’s netminders to work between the pipes, totaling 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Jesse Garcia made 32 stops and Kendall Meyer made zero. North Iowa was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

North Iowa also got points from Johnny Panvica, who also had two goals and two assists. North Iowa also had goals scored by Ryan Durant, Sam Naegele, and Conor Durgan, who scored one goal each. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Tom Lindgren, who had two, Robert Click, who had four, and Joe Kleven, Joe Burgmeier, Jack Stang, and Jake Johnson, who each chipped in one.

The Lumberjacks\’ offense rang up 33 shots on the Bulls\’ net.

Granite City was helped by Dallas Marvin, who finished with two goals. Marvin scored the first of his two goals at 11:18 into the second period to make the score 5-1 North Iowa. Jared Sprink assisted on the tally. Marvin\’s next tally made the score 7-4 North Iowa with 1:49 left in the third period. Sprink picked up the assist. Others who scored for Granite City included Adam Marty and David Horsmann, who each put in one. More assists for Granite City came via Blake Phenow, Luke Richardson, Tanner Skaja, and Michael Orke, who contributed one each.

North Iowa\’s Chris Amsden stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Bulls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Lumberjacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Granite City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Horsmann was ejected from the game.
