Huge game by Skaja boosts Granite City over Minnesota, 9-1

Behind a great game by Tanner Skaja, who had two goals and five assists, the Granite City Lumberjacks defeated the Minnesota Flying Aces, 9-1.

Skaja scored at 3:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City and again while 12:03 into the first to make the score 3-0 Granite City.

 

Granite City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Minnesota power plays. The Lumberjacks outdid their season average for goals scored. Granite City averages 6.0 goals per game.

Granite City additionally got points from Jared Sprink, who also had one goal and one assist, David Kenney, who also registered one goal and two assists, Travis Kothenbeutel, who also tallied one goal and four assists, and Kyler Chartier, who also had one goal and one assist. Granite City also had goals scored by Zach Voss, Alex Carson, and Georgy Ostapchuk, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Corey Taylor, Blake Phenow, and David Horsmann, who each chipped in one.

Minnesota stifled the Lumberjacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Flying Aces were led by Matt Olson, who scored the team's only goal. Olson scored 1:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Granite City. Lucas Mickelson picked up the assist.

Sam Goetsch recorded 16 saves for Granite City. The Lumberjacks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Minnesota's Tanner Balk stopped 14 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Flying Aces incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
