Granite City Lumberjacks had three goals during the second period on their way to blank the MN Flying Aces 5-0.
Zac Sikich had two goals and one assist to lead Granite City. Sikich scored the first of his two goals at 12:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Nick LaRue provided the assist. Sikich's next tally made the score 4-0 Granite City with 9:27 left in the second period. DJ Vold picked up the assist.
The Lumberjacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Minnesota to score on any of its three power plays. Granite City forced the Flying Aces goalie Tyler Muehler to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.
Also scoring for the Lumberjacks were TJ Christenson, who had one and Riley Bengtson, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Matt Raiola, Peter Lindblad, Trevor Ness, and Kyle Castle, who each chipped in one.
Matt Grove recorded 18 saves for the Lumberjacks.
