Huge game by Otto boosts Granite City over Flint, 5-2

Behind a great game by Drew Otto, who had one goal and two assists, the Granite City Lumberjacks defeated the Flint Jr. Generals, 5-2.

Otto got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 4:47 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Granite City.  Otto dished an assist on Aidan Verbeke's goal that made the score 3-0 Granite City at 8:10 into the second period. He added another helper on Eric Miller's goal that made the score 4-0 Granite City at 15:03 into the second period.

Granite City additionally got points from Roy Grandov, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Matt Raiola also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Blake Phenow and Mitch Humphries, who each chipped in one.

The Lumberjacks' Scott Murray stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced.

 

Granite City uses fast start to beat Toledo, 7-1

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Toledo Cherokee, which could not recover and fell to the Granite City Lumberjacks, 7-1.

Granite City got the win with help from a great game by Drew Otto, who had two goals and one assist. Otto scored the first of his two goals at 11:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Matt Peterson provided the assist. Otto's next tally made the score 3-0 Granite City with 4:36 left in the first period. Eric Miller assisted on the tally.

The Lumberjacks were led by goalie Austin Wilson, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal.

Granite City also got points from Miller, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mitch Humphries, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tim Brown also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Aidan Verbeke, who had two and Matt Raiola, Isaac Hoagland, Aaron Azevedo, Mitchell Gwost, Alex Carson, Brett Love, and Blayne Ellson, who contributed one a piece.

 

Granite City downs Three Rivers in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Granite City Lumberjacks' Roy Grandov scored 4:53 into overtime to beat the Three Rivers Vengeance, 4-3 (OT).

Granite City came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Lumberjacks fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Three Rivers' at 1:07 in the second period. Granite City knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Alex Koopmeiners at 12:43 in the third period.

Granite City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Vengeance to score on any of their eight power plays.

Aidan Verbeke also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Nick Turbitt, who had two, Matt Raiola, Matt Peterson, Aaron Azevedo, and Mitch Humphries, who each chipped in one.

The Lumberjacks' Scott Murray stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced.

 

Leon stymies Granite City, Quad City wins 2-1

The Quad City Jr. Flames relied on the sparkling performance of Jake Leon in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Granite City Lumberjacks.

Granite City was led by Nick Turbitt, who scored the team's only goal. Turbitt scored short handed 9:00 into the second period to make the score 1-1.   Roy Grandov assisted on the tally.

Granite City's Austin Wilson stopped 16 shots out of the 18 that he faced.
