Jacks Lose in OT

The Granite City Lumberjacks lost to the Twin City Steel 5-4 on Saturday Night at Sports Arena East.  The Steel score first with a power play goal 5 minutes into the first.  The Lumberjacks evened the score with a power plaay goal of their own.  Tyler Stoller blasted a slapshot that found the top corner.  Peter Lindblad and Trevor Ness assisting on the goal.  With under a minute left in the 1st, Austin Buckholz pick up the puck near the top of the circles and fired a pass backdoor to Nick LaRue, who had beaten his coverage out of the corner, and buried a one timer to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead after one.

Nick Zierden pushed the lead to 2 when he picked of a pass in the neutral zone and fired a wrist shot high blocker from just inside the blue.  The Steel take the momentum back scoring just 10 seconds later with a similar shot from the blueline that went post and in.  At the 12 minute mark the Steel tie the game off another Jacks turnover at their own blueline.  the 2nd ended in a 3-3 tie.

Twin City would strike first in the 3rd and hold that lead until 0.4 seconds left in the game.  With the Jacks pulling Grant Hollar to make it a 6-3 advantage, Trevor Ness scored on a wrist shot from the slot.  Peter Lindblad collected a DJ Vold pass behind the net and quickly spun and hit Ness.  The Steel held tough and killed another 1:17 of 5-3 to start the overtime.  With just under 2 minutes left in the OT, Twin City was able to beat a backchecker to buy the winner off a rebound.  Grant Holler finished with 23 saves.
