Kenney's big game bests Breezy Point in 6-0 Granite City win

The Granite City Lumberjacks' David Kenney had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-0 win over the Breezy Point North Stars.

Kenney scored 1:07 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Mitchell Gwost picked up the assist. Kenney dished an assist on Jared Sprink's goal that made the score 3-0 Granite City at 9:08 into the second period. He added another helper on Blake Phenow's goal that made the score 5-0 Granite City at 1:41 into the third period.

 

Granite City's offense rang up 33 shots on Breezy Point's net.

Granite City additionally got points from Luke Richardson, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Sprink, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Granite City also had goals scored by Alek Groth and Blake Babineau, who scored one goal each. In addition, Granite City received assists from Dallas Marvin, who had two and Kevin Finley, Tobias Gabrielsen, Travis Kothenbeutel, and Georgy Ostapchuk, who each chipped in one.

The North Stars avoided man-down situations well, racking up one major for 15 minutes in penalty time. Breezy Point ended up below its season average of 39.0 penalty minutes per game. The North Stars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Breezy Point averages 2.5 goals per game. The Lumberjacks' defense shut down the North Stars' forwards for much of the game, and Breezy Point got off only 12 shots during the contest.

Sam Goetsch made 12 saves for Granite City on 12 shots. The Lumberjacks finished the contest with no penalties and went 3-for-1 with the man advantage. Dakota McDonald rejected 27 shots on goal for the North Stars. Breezy Point registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. For the North Stars, Adam Herriott was ejected from the game.
