Lumberjacks Outlast Blizzard

The Granite City Lumberjacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Alexandria Blizzard on the way to a 3-1 win.

Granite City made the score 3-0 on a goal by Blayne Ellson at 17:50 in the first period, and Alexandria got as close as 3-1 with just under 3 minutes remaining in the third period.

The Lumberjacks were led by goalie Scott Murray, who finished with 50 saves while allowing one goal.

Granite City was helped by Aidan Verbeke who netted one goal.  Verbeke scored on the power play 12:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City.  Mitchell Gwost provided the assist.  Alex Koopmeiners also scored for Granite City when he picked off a pass up the middle and finished the partial break-away.  More assists for Granite City came via Eric Miller, Drew Otto, and Mitch Humphries, who contributed one a piece.
