Mohs’ big game bests Peoria in 7-3 xGranite City win

Behind a great game by Christian Mohs, who had two goals and two assists, the xGranite City Lumberjacks defeated the Peoria Mustangs, 7-3.

Mohs\’ tallies came at 44 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 xGranite City and 14:03 into the second to make the score 5-2 xGranite City.

xGranite City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Lumberjacks forced Peoria goalie Clint Steinmeyer to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

xGranite City additionally got points from Taylor Brown, who also tallied two goals and two assists and Zac Sikich, who also finished with one goal and two assists. xGranite City also had goals scored by Zach Voss and Roy Grandov, who scored one goal each. In addition, xGranite City received assists from Brady Berhardson, who had two and John Regnart, Aidan Verbeke, Mitchell Gwost, and Morgan Martelle, who each chipped in one.

The Mustangs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow xGranite City to score on any of its four power plays.

Peoria was helped by Joshua Hart, who racked up one goal. Hart scored 5:52 into the third period to make the score 5-3 xGranite City. Nathan Chasteen picked up the assist. Peoria also got points from Sam Turner, who also registered one goal and one assist. Levi Armstrong also scored for Peoria. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Chance Homerin, Thomas Kolaz, and Brendan Murphy, who contributed one a piece.

The Lumberjacks\’ Austin Wilson stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Clint Steinmeyer made 44 saves for the Mustangs on 51 shots. Peoria incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
