Sprink's goals lift Granite City to 4-1 victory over Minnesota

Jared Sprink had two goals to lead the Granite City Lumberjacks to a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Flying Aces.

Sprink scored at 12:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City and again while 13:15 into the third to make the score 4-1 Granite City.

 

Granite City forced Minnesota's netminders to work without much rest, racking up 53 shots and forcing 49 saves. Kevin OShea made 17 stops and Dakota McDonald made 32. The Lumberjacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flying Aces to score on any of their five power plays. Granite City was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Granite City also had goals scored by Blake Phenow and Travis Kothenbeutel, who scored one goal each. More assists for Granite City came via Spencer Nelson and Luke Richardson, who contributed one each and Tanner Skaja, Michael Orke, and Dallas Marvin, who each chipped in two.

Minnesota could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Flying Aces were led by Colton Jones, who scored the team's only goal. Jones scored 9:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Blake Neumann assisted on the tally.

Sam Goetsch made 21 saves for the Lumberjacks on 22 shots. Granite City registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
