Voss lifts Granite City over Alexandria, 4-1

Behind a great game by Zach Voss, who had two goals, the Granite City Lumberjacks defeated the Alexandria Blizzard, 4-1.

Voss found the back of the net 14:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and again while 14:30 into the second to make the score 2-0 Granite City.

 

Granite City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Lumberjacks had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Granite City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Lumberjacks forced Alexandria goalie Tanner Elmore to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Jared Sprink also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Spencer Nelson, Luke Richardson, Tanner Skaja, Adam Marty, Tobias Gabrielsen, and Alek Groth, who contributed one each.

The Blizzard were held below their usual level of production. Alexandria averages 4.5 goals per game. The Blizzard struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 46 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

Alexandria was led by Kolton Aubol, who scored the team's only goal. Aubol scored 18:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Kyle Jones picked up the assist.

Jesse Garcia made 18 saves for Granite City on 19 shots. The Blizzard's Elmore stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Alexandria ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nathan Scofield was ejected from the game.
