Chasteen nets hat trick, leads Peoria to 5-2 win over xGranite City

The xGranite City Lumberjacks could not stop the Peoria Mustangs\’ Nathan Chasteen, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Chasteen notched his first tally 5:59 into the second period. He then added goals at 7:36 into the third and at 18:57 into the third.

Peoria\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three xGranite City power plays.

Peoria additionally got points from Sam Turner, who also finished with one goal and three assists and Brendan Murphy, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Peoria came via Blake Ortman, who had one and Joshua Hart, who had two.

xGranite City was held below its usual level of production. The Lumberjacks put an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. xGranite City kept the Mustangs\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Hayton made 41 saves on 43 shots. The Lumberjacks\’ normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. xGranite City averages 2.4 goals allowed per game.

The Lumberjacks were helped by Nick Haase, who tallied one goal. Haase scored 7:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Tobias Gabrielsen provided the assist. xGranite City also got points from Aidan Verbeke, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, xGranite City received assists from Drew Otto and Morgan Martelle, who contributed one a piece.

Peoria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Scott Murray recorded 12 saves for xGranite City. The Lumberjacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
