Granite City blows out Metro, 6-1

The Granite City Lumberjacks were firing on all cylinders against the Metro Jets, and when the final buzzer sounded Lumberjacks emerged with a 6-1 win.

The win gave Granite City a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Lumberjacks got the win on the strength of a great game by Dallas Marvin, who had two goals and one assist. Marvin scored the first of his two goals at 16:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Jared Sprink picked up the assist. Marvin\’s next tally made the score 4-0 Granite City with 13:53 left in the third period. Michael Orke assisted on the tally.

Granite City forced Metro goalie Jake Stephan to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Team could not crack the Jets\’ penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Granite City additionally got points from Sprink, who also registered one goal and two assists and David Kenney, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Travis Kothenbeutel also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were David Horsmann, who had one.

The Lumberjacks\’ Jesse Garcia stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Granite City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jake Stephan made 30 saves for Metro on 36 shots. The Jets incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
