Granite City downs Twin City in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Granite City pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over Twin City on a clutch goal by Alex Durand.

Twin City could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Granite City made the score 4-2 on a goal by Adam Marty at 2:40 in the third period. Twin City got to within 4-3 on a goal by Joe Costello at 7:46 in the third period.

Michael Piehler and Durand provided the spark for Granite City, combining for three goals and one assist. Piehler racked up two goals and one assist and Durand also added one goal.

Granite City kept Twin City\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Jon Albers made 28 saves on 33 shots.

Granite City also got points from Marty, who also registered one goal and one assist. Spencer Nelson also scored for Granite City. In addition, Granite City received assists from Tyler Mros, who had two and Kevin Finley, John Suess, and Lucas Carroll, who contributed one each.

Twin City managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Twin City wound up below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game.

Twin City additionally got points from Tristan Mayer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Twin City also got a goal from Luc Kreuser as well. More assists for Twin City came via Jared Erickson, who had two and Kyle Wagner, Adam Vannelli, Alex Egle, Trevor Woytcke, and Jay Paul, who each chipped in one.

Granite City\’s Mac Berglove stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Granite City incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Twin City registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
