Jacks Pick Up 2 Wins on Weekend

The Lumberjacks improved their record to a West Division-best 6-1 as they edged the Blizzard on Friday, 3-2. Tucker Skime scored two goals in the win. The Blizzard took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period on a goal from Alex Heidenreich. The Lumberjacks answered twice in the 2nd period on goals from Skime and Carson Van Zuilen to tie the game at 2-2 as Sean Kenny scored for the Blizzard. In the 3rd period, Skime netted the game-winner halfway through the period. Matthew Smith made 20 saves in the win, while Andrew Tuttle made 30 saves in the loss.

Xander Roberts stopped all 17 shots that came his way and Nick Stevens had a night at the other end of the ice with a hat-trick and a helper as the Lumberjacks cruised past the Steel 6-0 on Saturday. Brett Reed, Wilson Dahlheimer and Nicholas Richert rounded out the scoring in this one, as New Ulm netminders Nolan Lacosse and Zach Foster combined for 39 saves in their team’s loss.
