Jacks Skate to 4 Point Weekend

Friday – The Lumberjacks barely snuck by the Blizzard in the Friday night tilt.  After a scoreless first period, the Lumberjacks got on the board only 50 seconds into the second when Mitch Gwost keeps the put in the zone, Aaron Storch chips it to Aidan Verbeke.  Verbeke attempts to hit Drew Otto on the back door but an Alexandria defenseman deflects puck into his own goal.  The Blizzard would tie it up later in the second to enter the 3rd tied 1-1.

The Jacks would again take the lead 6 minutes into the third.  Aaron Storch picked off a pass and fired a quick shot on net.  Nick Turbitt picked up the rebound and feed DJ Vold on the back door for a tap in goal.  Alexandria would tie it up again with the extra attacker on the ice during a delayed penalty.

The Jacks would get the two points in the shoot-out with Gwost, Turbitt and Otto all scoring for the 3-2 shoot-out win.  Austin Wilson made  26 saves in the game.

 

Sunday – A hat trick by Zac Sikich was the highlight in Lumberjacks' 8-2 win against the Twin City Steel.

Sikich's first goal came 4:56 into the second period. He then added goals at 12:13 into the second and at 16:25 into the second.

The Granite City Lumberjacks forced Steel's netminders to work without much rest, ripping 40 shots and forcing 32 saves. Granite City additionally got points from Aidan Verbeke, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Drew Otto, who also tallied one goal and four assists. Mitchell Gwost also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via DJ Vold, who had two and Blake Phenow, Dakoda Menslage, Michael Lawrence, and Aaron Storch, who contributed one a piece.

Scott Murray recorded 17 saves for Granite City.
