La Crosse outlasts Granite City, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, La Crosse escaped with a 4-2 victory over Granite City.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Daniel Toycen\’s goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Toycen had a great game for La Crosse, netting two goals.

La Crosse excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

La Crosse also got points from JP Eykyn, who also had one goal and one assist. Joe Guimont also scored for La Crosse. More assists for La Crosse came via Andrew Wagner, Ben Johnson, Brady Thiering, Dylan Goggin, and Jerame Schuetzle, who each chipped in one.

Granite City stifled La Crosse\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Granite City\’s offense operated below its season average. Granite City puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Granite City\’s offense rang up 40 shots on La Crosse\’s net.

Granite City was helped by Chase Di Bari, who registered one goal. Di Bari scored 10:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Casey Esselman picked up the assist. Granite City also got a goal from Braden Altena as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Lucas Carroll, who had one.

Andrew Wagner made 38 saves for La Crosse on 40 shots. La Crosse incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mac Berglove recorded 26 saves for Granite City. Granite City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
