Lumberjacks Split During Thanksgiving Holiday

Wednesday – The Alexandria Blizzard tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Granite City Lumberjacks held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Matt Peterson put Granite City up 4-2 in the third period, but Alexandria pulled to within one 16:43 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks got the win with help from Drew Otto, who had one goal and two assists. Otto scored on the power play 6:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Granite City.  Aidan Verbeke provided the assist and ended the game with three helpers.

Granite City also got a goal from each Nick Turbitt and Zac Sikich.  Other assists for Granite City went to DJ Vold and Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who contributed one a piece.

Scott Murray recorded 25 saves for the Lumberjacks. 

 

 

Saturday – The Minnesota Flying Aces scored 48 seconds into overtime to beat the Granite City Lumberjacks, 4-3 (OT).

Minnesota overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Flying Aces were down 3-1 after a goal by Granite City's Drew Otto at 18:54 in the second period. Minnesota tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Patrick Kegley at 12:15 in the third period.

Eric Miller and Aaron Azevedo also scored for Granite City.  Assists for Granite City came via Aaron Storch, who had two and DJ Vold, Aidan Verbeke, Alex Koopmeiners, and Brett Love, who contributed one a piece.

Granite City's Austin Wilson stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced.
