Marvin's goals lift Granite City to 4-1 victory over Wisconsin

Behind a great game by Dallas Marvin, who had two goals, the Granite City Lumberjacks defeated the Wisconsin Whalers, 4-1.

Marvin found the back of the net 15:01 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and again while 12:04 into the third to make the score 3-1 Granite City.

 

Wisconsin was stymied by Granite City's netminder Jesse Garcia, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Garcia certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.6 entering the contest.

The Lumberjacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Whalers to score on any of their four power plays.

Granite City additionally got points from Jared Sprink, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Granite City also got a goal from David Horsmann as well. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Alek Groth, who had one and Mitchell Gwost, who had two.

Wisconsin was held below its usual level of production. The Whalers average 3.3 goals per game.

Wisconsin was led by Ryan Martin, who scored the team's only goal. Martin scored 10:09 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Peter Henderson provided the assist.

Granite City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Whalers' Evan Moyse stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Wisconsin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
