Mac Berglove came up big, stopping 35 of 36 shots throughout the game. The Granite City Lumberjacks took the lead early in the second on a goal from Matthew Moran.
In the first, Newel opened the scoring for Metro with a goal at 3:41 with a helper from defenseman Flannery.
In the second period, Smith answered for the Lumberjacks with a goal at 3:00 with assists from his linemates, Sikich and Altena. Moran quickly followed with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 3:59 with a helper from defenseman Moser.
Granite City’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Berglove’s big night as he stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced. Berglove’s counterpart, Kormos, also had a big night, managing to stop 32 of 34, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Granite City Lumberjacks’ record to (42-10-5-2).
