Jan 25, 2018

The Granite City Lumberjacks' offense had a big night, peppering the Willmar WarHawks with 43 shots throughout the game, to go along with Ridge Gerads' shutout. The Granite City Lumberjacks took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Braden Altena and never looked back.

Braden Altena delivered for his team with 2 goals and Jordan Olson did his part, adding 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).

During the first period, Altena opened the scoring for the Lumberjacks with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 9:12 with helpers from Troumbly and Buhl. Altena put in a goal at 16:19 with an assist from his teammate Neu. Troumbly quickly followed with a goal at 17:43 with a helper from his linemate Castro.

In the second, Olson netted a goal at 2:56 with assists from Sikich and Neu.

In the third period, Sikich scored a goal at 4:55 with a helper from defenseman Olson.

The Lumberjacks’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Gerads’ shutout, as he stopped all 17 of the shots he faced. Gerads’ counterpart, Fry, also had a big night, managing to stop 38 of 43, but ultimately fell short.

This win brings the Granite City Lumberjacks’ record to (22-11-0-0).
